challenge

Bodyworn cameras

There are countless things that can go wrong during a police intervention. How can one, as a police officer or as the citizen approached, be confident that everything is done according to code?

This complex question can be answered by Axis body worn cameras, a solution that was created from a user-centered design process. A process that turns every stone to find possible obstacles and to eliminate them, so that when the people behind the lens, as much as the ones in front of it, are treated with justice, while making sure the solution will be managed effortlessly by every user in the value chain.

USER RESEARCH

To conduct user studies with the American police

Developing handheld portable products aimed for the police force meant extreme demands on ease of use, performance and durability. The product had to be “cop-proof”, meaning it had to be fail-proof under extremely stressful circumstances and the product also had to withstand unusually tough user conditions. This proved to be quite a challenge, since the police force is a user group that is not as accessible as most others, primarily because of safety and legal reasons.

"As always, with a product with such high requirements and extreme use cases, there have been many challenges when it comes to the overall design and user experience, ergonomics, user interface, choice of materials, mechanical solutions etc, but because of a highly dedicated project team and a thoroughly executed human-centered design process, we have achieved something that we believe is an outstanding design and user experience for the end user
