Zenit Design was set to design a premium product to target the demand and requests from smaller laboratories. The aim was to develop a design that reflected the Cellavision quality and heritage, yet with a new tighter countertop design with simplified usability.
Cellavision have received requests from small, remotely located laboratories to provide a system performing hematology testing. Laboratories situated in underdeveloped countries as well as satellite labs are facing the challenge of limited physical space. By offering a new lightweight and more flexible system, these work sites can go from uncomfortable to spacious.
By service safaris and contextual interviews at labs we gained insights about challenges that biomedical analysts face during their daily work routines. We sketched up a smaller and more flexible version of CellaVisions existing system, while having in mind the smaller businesses that truly benefit from a more affordable product.
The concepts grew from ideas to a real design proposal. Physical mock-ups in scale 1:1 were crucial to simulate the usability and positioning of sample glasses along with design details such as chamfer sizes and color & trim. The mechanical design team from Zenit Design and CellaVision worked closely together to secure part and assembly quality, system maintenance and mechanical design of the product.
DC-1 is the smallest system in the product range. The design expression could be perceived as “your friend to rely on”, that originates from our desire to make it look inviting yet professional. The dynamic chamfer around the edge of the outer casing gives the product a modern look while the light blue hue in combination with a semi transparent lid might remind of a system quality as crisp and clear as an ice-cold winter morning.
We at Zenit Design are very proud of our long lasting relation to this Swedish medical-tech market-leading company. CellaVision’s proven track-record of helping labs transform the important routine procedure of performing blood cell differentials have been a part of Zenit for many years now.
